-
- Ian M Mackenzie has written a series of tutorials on the use of
- DrawPlus "from the beginning". The first article in the series appears
- on the May 1994 PipeLine disc.
-
-
- What is on the DrawPlus Disc?
-
- The DrawPlus disc contains Jonathan Marten's DrawPlus version 2.24.
-
- DrawPlus now possesses all of the features of RiscOS 3 Draw (apart from
- the two features in previous versions of Acorn Draw that previous
- versions of DrawPlus did not have).
-
- DrawPlus is a Shareware application by Jonathan Marten which you can
- use as a super version of Acorn's Draw. DrawPlus contains many new
- features not in Draw such as independent layers (using layers is rather
- like working on a transparency which covers your previous work -
- layers can be saved independently) and a much improved method of
- entering outline fonts. Editing, particularly of text, is much
- quicker, easier and WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get). DrawPlus
- accepts files in Acorn's Draw format and you can save either in Draw or
- DrawPlus format. DrawPlus contains a library of Draw files which you
- can add to, edit and instantly recall for insertion in your own
- drawings. Text entered in an outline font can be converted to a drawn
- object. DrawPlus closely approaches the sophistication of a two
- dimensional CAD application and is ideal for advertisements, posters
- and two dimensional drawings.
-
- If you have RISC OS 3 then extra features such as the ability to rotate
- text and to iconise files to the Pinboard are also available.
-
- Jonathan Marten is the designer of Vector. I believe that DrawPlus is
- only slightly inferior to Vector and that it is much better than the
- most recent version of !Draw supplied by Acorn as part of the RISC OS 3
- operating system.
-
- This application is Shareware (not public domain) so we regularly send
- a financial contribution to the author, Jonathan Marten.
-
-
- The changes introduced in V 2.24 are summarised below.
-
- 1 Transformed text and sprite objects are supported (RiscOS 3 only).
- Text objects, sprites and groups containing them can now be
- rotated, skewed and flipped in the same way as path objects.
- Transformed text objects can be edited.
-
- 2 Some types of Vector object (i.e. replicates and radiates) can be
- displayed and manipulated (moved, copied etc). It is not possible
- to change the parameters of such an object, nor to extract the
- original object.
-
- 3 Text-to-path conversion works with both the RiscOS 2 and RiscOS 3
- font managers. When using RiscOS 3, both disc and ROM fonts can be
- converted.
-
- 4 The font table is handled more intelligently. This should result
- in smaller Draw files, especially if you have a lot of fonts.
-
- 5 A few extra keystrokes have been added. The <Delete> and <Copy>
- keys delete and copy the selection, respectively, in the same way
- as <^X> and <^C>. The <^F1> key causes DrawPlus to give up the
- caret if it currently holds it. This allows keystrokes to reach
- another application which is trapping hotkeys (e.g. Menon).
-
- 6 Colour dithering, Iconise and Save Desk are supported for RiscOS 3.
-
- 7 Printing via Laser Direct shouldn't crash the machine if the print
- is interrupted by pressing Escape or any other error.
